String Lights

I love string lights (aka Christmas lights, fairy lights, etc.)!  They are one of my favorite design elements.  And so I love this article from Apartment Therapy about using string lights in the bedroom. So inspirational!  I would love to do something along the back wall of my bedroom with white sheers and white lights.  I think it would look so pretty and romantic.

They look pretty. I never would have thought of using them in the house year-round.

Some of my friends back in high school used to decorate their bedrooms with them. They can look really pretty when done right.

I have some twinkle lights I’ve been meaning to hang in the bedroom forever. I just have to figure out a good way to do it that doesn’t look pathetic.

Julie, I am having the same problem. I don’t want it to look like a teenager’s bedroom, but I do want it to be romantic. I think Lobster and Swan had some good ideas on her blog (archived quite a bit, at this point, I think) and I really love the picture I put on here. I can’t figure out how to do that, though. Also in the movie Because I Said So one character has really great lights in her living room and I love how that was done. I’m not sure how to hide the outlet part, though.

I really like the picture you posted too. But we don’t have a headboard and our bed is against the wall. I don’t really want to move it away from the wall either. I’ve always liked what Lobster and Swan did with hers. Maybe I need to suck it up and make or buy some white garland-y thing to go with the lights so they don’t look so stark.

Hrm, what if you did the lights in lines either horizontally or vertically across the wall and then you hung sheers over them, to hide the cords? I have some pink and teal sheers that I think would be cool to do that with, but I don’t think it would work with my bed. Our bed is a royal blue color and it’s a tufted headboard, so I think that would be a bit much. White sheers would be really pretty too, because it’d be really bright and airy. And since you live in New Mexico you could do some fun things with bright ribbons interspersed over the sheers and pinatas, haha. Maybe that’s a bit much too, though. I love decorating. I’m addicted to Apartment Therapy.
